You do it though.
Well, I can’t speak for everyone, but I know I do it.
There’s a decision you make. You don’t ever really know when you first make it,
but you know that it’s there.
You decide that you will sacrifice the tiniest part of your own happiness,
so that someone you care about can be happy.
And it works.
But it doesn’t stop there.
You keep going. Keep sacrificing, keep giving it up so that other people,
the ones around you, the ones you love and care about,
can have their moment of happiness. And pretty soon, you realise you’ve surrendered yourself completely to this process.
You are translucent, in that you will give up any amount of your own self, or your own happiness willingly, without second thought, to see these people happy.
And that in turn makes you happy; seeing other people in such joy.For the time being.
It is simultaneously the most selfless and most selfish choice
you could ever have made. But as long as they’re happy, you can’t be anything other than happy, can you?
Regardless of how their actions or choices affect you on any other level,
if they’re happy, then you should be too, right?
